This was the first time I had ever dyed my hair. My hair has been highlighted multiple times but never full on dyed, much less at home. However my friend was desperate to dye her hair and persuaded me to join in the "hair dye" party
Here is a picture of the overall box. The shade I was going for was going to be between the top two hearts:
Unfortunately, I completely forgot to take a picture of the materials inside the box so I'll just list them out for you.
- A bottle labelled "1" that contains liquid to only ~1/4 filled with liquid
- A tube labelled "2" that contains the colourant cream which is 40ml
- A nozzle-cap like thing for bottle "1", it has a comb feature
- A leave-in conditioner for after dye
- An instruction manual (English, Japanese, Korean & Chinese)
- gloves
Here's a rough overview of the instructions:
This first step isn't included in the instructions but I recommend you do it first. Before even mixing the dye, prep your skin. Apply petroleum jelly (vaseline) onto the back of your neck, ear area and face. Pretty much any skin near your hair. This will prevent the dye from staining your skin. Next take the tube "2" and squeeze all its contents into bottle "1", when finished place cap back on and shake vigorously until it has been properly mixed. Comb your hair before applying the dye. If you haven't already, apply put on your gloves! Now it's time to start applying! Switch the regular bottle cap for the comb like cap. Gently squeeze an appropriate amount of dye onto your hair while combing in sections. When product has been all used up, let your hair absorb the dye for ~20-30 minutes. After, wash your hair with shampoo twice then apply the leave-in conditioner. Ta-da! New hair colour! (hopefully.)
** That's a general summary of the instructions however, I didn't exactly follow them **
I used two boxes. My hair is mid-length (past shoulders) and super thick. I didn't apply all the dye at first, I tied up most of my hair and left a small section at the bottom of my head down. I applied dye to that section only because I wanted to test the colour out first. I waited a bit over 40 minutes for that small section of hair to absorb the dye. Again, my hair is super thick so I left it in longer . I washed my hair, dried it and the results were good. I wanted something that wasn't too big of a colour change. I returned to the remaining dye and it had begun to turn purple. My first thought was, "ohhhhhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiz." My friend used Prettia (another Japanese brand) and did the exact same thing as me and hers also turned purple. However my Korean friend who was already experienced in home dyeing said it was fine. So then I put on my gloves and began to work the dye through my hair. I initially combed it through but I just stopped and applied the dye using my gloved hands. I focused mainly on my roots and the inside of my hair because I'd rather have slightly darker ends than darker roots LOL.After using both boxes of Palty, I waited a bit over 40 minutes and washed my hair. I saw the dye run down the tub of my friend's place and was a bit freaked out. The smell wasn't strong but you could definitely tell it was dye. According to my friend it actually smelled pretty good compared to her Prettia dye!
This photo was taken a day before. You can see that my hair is in fact super dark brown with a copper-y brown for highlights!
This photo was taken directly after dyeing my hair. It was only dried slightly but you can definitely tell the difference from the day before.
This photo compares my crown area before and after the dye. My roots are pretty equal in colour and lighter now. Some parts are a bit lighter than others because of my previous highlights.
TL;DR:
The process was super easy! I do have to say that my head did sting for a minute or two after I finished applying the dye. My skin has always been super duper sensitive since I was little so it makes sense but the stinging went away almost instantly. I got the exact results I was hoping for! You do not know how nervous I was yesterday! I was so jumpy and I kept checking the timer saying, "IS IT TIME TO WASH MY HAIR YET?!" Although the shade implies some sort of red --> "Raspberry Macaron" ... There isn't really much which I expected.Rating: 5/5♥
The lighting in this photo is very bright which shows
more of the colour and how it will probably look
like in direct sunlight.
** I hope this helps others! Especially those with dark hair because I had a hard time looking for review with similar hair qualities as mine haha.
Looks great but I might try a lighter shade. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteLike with most shades, don't expect the colour on the box to come out exactly the way it says. Even on the back where it shows you the progression for different hair colours.
DeleteI'm assuming you have pretty dark hair as well so be sure to pick a shade that is slightly lighter than what you would've normally picked out. If your hair has some previous dye in it then the colour is also more likely to show~
Also not sure whether you meant actual shades LOL. "Ganache tart" is a lighter shade in the shade family I used. There's also, "strawberry maroon", "sakura creamy", "caramel brown", "pure natural" and "juicy peach"
I hope this helps^^
